What will the future of energy look like?

The Future of PV: Solar Shingles

David Biello learns more about thin film photovoltaic and discovers the best thing to happen to solar power since Jimmy Carter: building-integrated PV. To the untrained eye they may look like blue shingles, but these are shingles that can actually power your house. At their factory in Auburn Hills, Michigan David discusses this new concept in green design with Uni-Solar president Subhendu Guha. Would you put them on your roof?

Solar panels, their manufacturers and their installers, have been under a lot of pressure lately as a slate of issues have arisen globally regarding the renewable energy technology.casio watches pakistan casio watches in pakistan casio watches prices in pakistan casio watches casio edifice
From the collapse of major solar panel producer Solyndra in the US to recent damning reports that an increasing number of solar panels under the federal government’s renewable energy scheme have been dangerously installed, and may not be working effectively.

As solar PV technology continues to improve, solar shingles will no doubt become thinner, cheaper, and more efficient. If current trends in the California housing market (subprime crisis aside) are any indication of the technology's potential, solar shingles face a bright future. About a year ago, used cars for instance, Lennar Homes and SunPower took a big step towards making solar shingles (and other PV products) available as a standard option for home buyers and homeowners. Their efforts may well be the largest energy initiative attempted in the home-building industry in recent memory.

Thanks for the informative video. lawsuit

the politicians in Washington need to get more involve with this technology. Instead of laying with the big oil companies. yes i said laying.
uc personal statement

As long as one can afford it I see no reason why one wouldn't add it to one's roof.

It's becoming hard to distinguish solar-powered homes from conventional ones. At center stage is a technology that enables homeowners to meet their energy goals without compromising on aesthetics: the so-called "solar shingle." In short, solar shingles are modular photovoltaic (PV) cells disguised as roof shingles. cell phone listening

I've been waiting for Thin Film PV since I first heard of it. Retail pricing was (at that time) predicted to be around $1.25/watt. Is it still in that range? and when will it be commercially available? I'm near Midland ON, off-grid with 1.5kw conventional panels at about $6.50/watt. More - I want more!

Tremendous idea, I can only wish you every sucess

hey I was saying this when solar first came out, EXCELLENT AWESOME RIGHT ON... I would Definitly add that to my roof, living in Southern Ontario, Essex County Windsor, one the most southern area's of Canada, where can I buy them....
